The prominent herb from Yonaguni island (Chomei gusa in local dialect, meaning of Longevity herb/ scientific term: Peucedanum Japonicum Thanb) has originally grown in the rocky hill along the seashore at Yonahguni island located in the western tip of Japan. This herb is termed "Botanbofu" in Japanese. Islanders named it as "Chomeigusa "impressed at sight it grew under such severe conditions as in the hot and windy climate, and with rocky soil. The islanders infuse the roots for tea and eat the leaves as dressed foods and seasoning for the soup.

Chomeigusa includes two kinds of polyphenol such as chlorogenic acid and rutin.
Chlorogenic acid is an important factor in plant metabolism. It is also an oxidant and an inhibitor of the tumor promoting activity of forbol esters; at concentrations as high as 100 micro g/L, does not inhibit the 5-lipoxygenase activity of ionophore-stimulated human polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid are antioxidant in vitro and might therefore contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
